The strange thing is that while we send most patients home with pain medication, but a large percentage of them don’t need it! Most times, ibuprofen or Tylenol is all that is needed and many people take nothing for pain, because there isn’t much at all. Hard to believe, but true in many cases! We are happy to help with any pain needs that patients have, but there are many dental implant situations that simply don’t require any pain medications.

When most patients think of dental implants, their mind immediately jumps to the cost. Many people think that the cost of dental implants is very high. Well, it is…and it isn’t. When it comes to value and longevity, there is no better way to spend your dental dollars. Dental implants over more than 50 years of research and application in patients, have been proven to be more than 95% effective for a LIFETIME. Nothing else that you can spend your money on even comes close to lasting that long, except maybe your house – and even that needs money to upkeep.

There are also many ways to finance dental implants today. No interest financing plans have made it easier than ever to get the best care you can have – dental implants. A free consultation to determine if you are a candidate for dental implants is normally the way to get started. Imagine eating corn on the cob again by summer! There has never been a better time to get new teeth with dental implants.

Mini implants are not actually new to dentistry. They have been around and successful for many years. There are two main benefits to mini implants: cost and size. The cost with mini implants can be up to as much as half of the cost of conventional dental implants. There are many different scenarios where the size of mini implants is a benefit. Replacement of small missing teeth or tight spaces is an application.

Many patients wonder if mini implants have proven to be as effective and long-lasting as conventional implants. The answer after years and years of research and placement of tens of thousands of mini implants is definitely, yes! They are as effective when placed properly and the patient is compliant with what is required. The main requirement is regular dental check ups, avoiding smoking and cleaning well around the dental implant. When it comes to choosing whether dental implants are right for you, mini implants are a valid choice.

Some of you may think that you get along fine without teeth, but I have some news for you.

1. People respect you more if you have a good smile and like to be around you. Implants don’t only make you comfortable, they also make the people around you comfortable.

2. If you have teeth missing the bone around it is lost too. This means your chin could literally cave inwards and could cause other serious facial changes.

3. It is just more comfortable in general. Would it be more comfortable to have gums or teeth? Ponder that question and comment on this post.

Missing a tooth or a few teeth? Maybe you are missing all of them and struggling with dentures or partial dentures. Have you ever wondered if dental implants would be worth the cost? Let’s talk about it!

1. Dental implants are the longest lasting treatment in dentistry. Now, we all know that nothing lasts forever! Even marriages have a 50-50 chance these days. But if you like statistics, dental implants have some good ones. The average dental implant has a 97% success rate, better than anything else that we do.

2. Stay away from major dental work longer. Let’s face it, most folks don’t love to have dental work done if they can help it! The easiest way to stay away from major dental care is to take excellent care of your teeth and to make those regular trips to the dentist. Assuming you have a dentist that you trust, (if you don’t, find one ASAP!!) take their recommendations when they suggest something that can improve your oral health. My favorite thing is when patients come in on a regular basis and they “wait” on my recommendations, only to come back with something broken and they have to say “you told me so!”. I LOVE being right!! Well, I AM a woman and I AM married!

3. Replacing missing teeth. It has been said that there are as many as 82 reasons that a lower molar should be replaced. These include preserving the bone in this region, tipping of surrounding teeth, drifting of opposing teeth, and increased plaque on surrounding teeth. Basically, the teeth around the missing tooth are also weaked and compromised. This makes the decision to replace these teeth much easier to understand. In fact, a single tooth implant reduces the loss of surrounding teeth by 30% at 10 years over leaving the missing space.

4. Keep you from having dentures or partials. The number one thing in my years of being a dentist that folks don’t like is having their teeth come in and out. Don’t blame them a bit! Who wants to look at their teeth on the nightstand every night? I am pretty happy to keep mine just where they are, if I can help it. Now, with improved treatments, there is no reason why most people should not be able to keep most if not all of their teeth for their lifetime. However, if teeth are lost, dental implants are the most reliable method for tooth replacement available today.

5. Cost is relative. Let’s go back to the “nothing lasts forever” topic. Most dentists today have a lot of great technology and tools at our disposal to help patients to keep their natural teeth. Our treatments last a good long time and serve our patients well. However, just like with anything, there are times that things don’t work out like we plan. When teeth ARE lost, the cost of a dental implant should be considered simply because it may well be the last treatment you will ever have in that particualar area. The 97% success rate beats out all other treatments in dentistry, even though other treatments also have great success in most cases. Many times, if patients are willing to take great care of themselves and their teeth, (and not open beer bottles with them, like my brother!!) then dental treatment is very long-lasting and effective.

You have come to the right place for information about dental implants.

Should I Choose Dental Implants?

Dental Implant Facts

Dental implants are a permanent solution for tooth loss and offer many benefits. Studies show dental implants are stronger, more durable and feel more natural than bridges and dentures. Implants are good for supporting a dental bridge for multiple missing teeth. They also increase the stability and reduce gum tissue irritation when used with dentures.
Dental implants have been gaining popularity since the 1980’s and for good reason. They have a high success rate of 95% for the lower and 90% for the upper jaw after five years. Their increased success is due to the newer technology of the titanium cylinder. Another great benefit of implants is they work for people of all ages.

Tips for Long-Term Success
Success with dental implants comes down to two main factors – your dentist, and you. Dental implant success depends on the experience and ability of the dental surgeon placing them and the talent of the dentist who maintains them.
A successful candidate for dental implants must have good quality bone in their jaw and enough of it to hold the implant in place. A successful candidate must practice good oral care. A successful candidate must commit to flossing and brushing their teeth daily. Good care also includes dental examinations every 3-4 months and maintaining regular cleanings by a professional.

Who is Not a Good Candidate?
Studies show heavy smokers, people with uncontrolled diabetes and some blood disorders should avoid dental implants. People who have bone marrow cancer or are undergoing chemo or radiation therapy should also avoid implants.
Candidates with low or poor quality and quantity of bone or low sinuses or nerve bundles are also not good candidates.

Who Places Dental Implants and How?
Dentists that have special training in the placement and restoration of dental implants can surgically place and restore implants.
The procedure for implants involves several steps. First, the doctor will prepare the jaw for the implant by making a pilot hole at the site of the missing tooth. The pilot hole is slowly widened to allow for the implant screw. Then a protective cover screw is placed on top to allow the site to heal and the implant to anchor into the jaw bone. After several months of healing, the protective cover is removed and a temp crown is placed. This allows the gum to grow and shape in a natural way around the new tooth. Finally, a permanent crown is put into place.

Time Off Work and Cost of Dental Implants
Patients generally only miss work on the day of their surgery. They can usually return to work the next day, unless an unusual surgical circumstance should arise.
The costs for dental implants do vary, but $3000-5000 per tooth is a good average. This figure includes the implant surgery, the post or abutment placed in the healed implant, and the cost of the crown placed on top of the post.

Our practice offers financing and multiple options to help you with the cost of this long-lasting treatment for tooth replacement.
